According to Tuesday night's unofficial results, 13,022 ballots were cast in favor of a gaming establishment and 5,941 ballots cast against it.

When the Virginia General Assembly legalized casino gambling earlier this year, lawmakers earmarked five VA cities for potential casinos. The list included Danville, as well as Bristol, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Richmond.

In September, Danville City and Caesars Entertainment officials signed a development agreement for a resort casino at the site.
The agreement outlined what Caesars Virginia promised to deliver to the City of Danville should the casino gaming referendum pass.
The casino will be built at the former Dan River Mills industrial complex in Schoolfield.
It is expected to open in 2023.
The highlights of this development agreement include promises to do the following:
- Construct a Caesars-branded resort casino with a minimum of $400 million in capital investment, to include multiple restaurants and bars, a hotel with 300 four-star guest rooms, a 35,000 square-foot conference center, a 2,500-seat live-entertainment venue, a pool, and a spa.
- Employ 1,300 full-time equivalent employees, earning an hourly wage of at least $15 per hour.

Following passage of the November 3 referendum, Caesars will make an upfront payment of $20 million to the City. City Council has engaged a consultant to assist in determining the best use of these one-time funds.
Casino Being Built-in Danville Va
Within three years of opening, the resort is expected to generate $22 million in gaming taxes annually for the City. In addition, Caesars has agreed to pay an additional subsidy to the City – above and beyond the gaming taxes – based on the resort’s gaming revenues. This annual subsidy is estimated to be $12 million after five years. The resort is also expected to generate more than $4 million in other local taxes, including property, meals, and hotel occupancy taxes.
