Believe it or not, many Las Vegas pools close for the winter. Some of the hotels in this 24/7 city actually shut down one of its most popular attractions. Las Vegas gets “cold” during the winter. Who knew?!

The idea of cold Las Vegas might sound crazy if you’re from a city that sees snow (especially lake effect snow). I’m originally from the east coast and I don’t find it cold. I spent part of my college life on Lake Ontario and I don’t think I’ll ever feel cold again. My “winter coat” is a lined hoodie.

Not everyone is like me. There are already locals wearing winter coats. Tourists, on the other hand, are a different breed. High temperatures in the 40’s might be warm enough for some vacationers to take a dip. The sun makes it feel even warmer than the thermostat says. Despite the attractive temps for some, the crowds at the pools aren’t quite as large as the summer when it’s 110 degrees.

With fewer people laying out by the pool, there are some Las Vegas hotels that close for the winter. Today, we’ll look at the pools at hotels on the Vegas Strip. Some hotels on the Vegas Strip only have a single pool to close (GASP!). Then there are hotels that have multiple pools and keep one or more open for the warm-blooded guests.

Most, if not all, Las Vegas dayclubs are closed for the season so don’t expect a pool party at your favorite casino-resort. Even if the pools are open they might only offer limited services and amenities. For example, properties that might normally drink service or swim-up blackjack in the summer may not offer the same experience. The pool experience in the winter is more of a no-frills experience.

Winter Pools Open On The Las Vegas Strip

Winter is here and the weather is still gorgeous! Unfortunately, not all Las Vegas hotels keep pools open throughout the year. Here are some Vegas Strip hotels that offer some kind of pool experience during the winter:

• Aria: The pool is heated and open daily. Hours may vary so check the Aria website for more information.
• Bellagio: They usually have one or two of the five pools open during the winter. Space may be limited. Visit the Bellagio website for more info.
• Caesars Palace: The Venus Pool is open for all ages during the winter. It’s no longer a European style (top optional) pool.
• Circus Circus: Pool is open daily for now. That could change when the sale goes through.
• Cosmopolitan: The Chelsea pool is open for the winter. The Boulevard pool is used for special events like ice skating and movies.
• Luxor: The north pool is open daily.
• Mandalay Bay: The Moorea Beach Club has a heated pool during the winter. This is the only pool open at Mandalay Bay Beach.
• MGM Grand: One pool will remain open during the winter. The lazy river and other pools will be closed.
• The Mirage: The pool is open for the winter. However, the cafe is closed and hours might be limited for maintenance. Visit The Mirage website for more information.
• The Palazzo: The Vezina pool deck is open all year. The Palazzo pool 4 is closed for the winter. The pool may close if it’s too cold, so check with the hotel before your visit.
• Paris: The Soliel pool is heated for use all year.
• Park MGM: The pool complex is open all year round.
• Sahara: The Alexandria Pool is open during the winter. The other pools are closed.
• The Strat: The Elation pool is open for hotel guests only.
• Vdara: Pool is open all year round.
• The Venetian: The Vezina pool deck is open all year. Pools 1 and 2 at The Venetian are closed for the winter. The pool may close if it’s too cold, so check with the hotel before your visit.

Most of the pools off the Vegas Strip are closed for the cooler weather (November, December, January, February). Red Rock Casino and the Plaza are two of the few off-strip hotels that keep their pool open year-round.

The Tropicana resort and casino is the only hotel on the Strip with an indoor pool. The casino has a large 12,000 squarefoot outdoor pool with a 1,500 squarefoot indoor pool separated by a glass partition. Other amenities at the Tropicana include a hair salon, onsite restaurants, more than 35 specialty stores and, of course, the casino where guests can enjoy table games, slots and complimentary drinks for those gambling. The Tropicana is on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip near the MGM Grand, Excalibur and New York New York hotels/casinos.

Both tourist destinations are approximately eight miles from the hotel. This hotel also provides guests with a complimentary breakfast and free wireless Internet access. Standard rooms are available as well as kitchenette suites for those who would like to cook their own meals on vacation. The indoor pool is heated and the enclosed pool area includes a whirlpool tub. A limited number of petfriendly rooms are available so call ahead if you are traveling with pets.

The La Quinta Inn located a mere 1/2 mile from the Strip has a heated indoor swimming pool and whirlpool as well as an onsite fitness center. This petfriendly hotel also serves guests a complimentary breakfast and provides wireless Internet access at no additional charge.
